2) Carefully place the filter on the bottom of the bottle and turn slightly to place one end of the carbon filter in the opposite corner from the locking groove in the middle of the bottle.
3) In one motion, tilt the bottle so that the top end of the carbon filter faces the locking groove.
4) Squeeze the center of the bottle so that the rod fits into the recess and locks into place.
WHY CHARCOAL FOR WATER FILTRATION?
Charcoal, like activated carbon, works by attracting negative ions of impurities such as chlorine and binding them to its surface. In Japan, it has been used to purify and soften water for centuries.
HOW CAN I USE IT TO FILTER WATER?
Binchotan charcoal can be used immediately - just remove it from the packaging and put it in any bottle or jug. Once filled with water, you will notice an improvement in taste after about an hour.
HOW LONG DOES THE FILTER LAST?
When used daily to filter 800 ml of water, each stick lasts approximately 3 months. You can then "recharge" the charcoal stick by placing it in boiling water for 10 minutes. This process reactivates the charcoal, removes the impurities that have built up on its surface and can filter water for another 3 months.
WHAT TO DO IF THE CHARCOAL BREAKS?
The charcoal will work even if it breaks. However, if you prefer to buy new, you can still use the broken pieces in many different ways. For example, adding activated charcoal to a bowl of fruit can keep it fresh longer. Binchotan charcoal also helps release minerals like potassium into the drinking water, so in the same way it can help plants absorb other nutrients from the soil to keep them healthy and green. Simply break it up and add it to the soil. Charcoal also attracts and binds dirt to its surface - and can be really useful for absorbing moisture and unpleasant smells. It's great for your clothes drawer to get rid of moisture, or perhaps in your cat's litter tray. It's also good for sucking moisture from the fresh fruit and veg drawer in the fridge.
